“Revenue from membership sales and renewals increased, and we save a significant amount of staff time and paperwork. The customer service is outstanding and the team at Communal continues to add helpful features.”
Senior Activity Center Software
Senior activity center software for 50+ centers and clubs. Members sign up for chair yoga online or at the front desk, attendance goes on the sheet, and volunteer hours add up on their own, so the numbers are there when a funder asks.
- Members register online, or staff sign them up at the desk
- Attendance marked by staff or the instructor, walk-ins included
- Attendance and volunteer hours ready to export when reports are due

What is senior activity center software?
Senior activity center software, often shortened to senior center software, manages memberships, class registration, attendance, room bookings, volunteers and donations for centers serving adults 50 and over. It is not senior care software, which handles clinical and residential care in long-term care homes and adult day health programs.

You're looking for a better way to...
Pull a funding report without a week of digging
Attendance sheets, signups and volunteer hours are already in one place, and each one exports to a spreadsheet.
Take registrations without retyping paper forms
Members sign up and pay online, so staff stop copying forms into a spreadsheet every Monday.
Serve members who are online and members who are not
Some members book on their phone, others pay cash at the desk, and both land on the same record.
Stop losing members to renewals nobody noticed
Reminder emails go out before a membership expires, on the day it does, and after it lapses.
Powering 500+ community organizations

A senior center system that keeps one record per member
Each part of the week writes to the same member record, so you are not rebuilding it from sign-in sheets at report time.
Memberships and renewals
Annual, rolling, household and reduced-rate memberships, with reminder emails before, at and after expiry.
Programs, classes and registration
Fitness, learning and social programs with online or desk registration, capacity limits, waitlists and member rates.
Attendance and participation
Staff or the instructor mark who came on the attendance sheet, walk-ins included, and export it when you need the numbers.
Volunteers and volunteer hours
Volunteers pick their own shifts and clock in and out, and their hours sit on the same member record.
Rooms, halls and space bookings
Take room requests online with your booking form, approve them, and send an invoice from the booking.
Donations and tax receipts
Take donations online or at the desk. Registered charities in Canada and 501(c)(3)s in the US can have the receipt emailed automatically.

Funder numbers from records you already keep
Most centers rebuild their funding numbers at year end from sign-in sheets and staff memory. When attendance and volunteer hours go into Communal through the year, the report-back starts from a few exports.
- Attendance sheets exported to CSV or PDF
- Volunteer hours by volunteer and date range
- Active member counts by month
- A public form for your annual member survey

Senior program registration for members on and off the computer
A 62-year-old signing up for Zumba on her phone and an 88-year-old paying cash for chair yoga at the front desk are both your members, and both end up on the same class list.
- Online registration, with guest signup for people without an account
- Staff register members over the phone or at the counter
- Walk-ins added to the attendance sheet on the day
- Member rates for signed-in members, with waitlists and capacity limits

One record per member, whether they paid online or handed you a check
A check in the mail, cash at the desk, a drop-in who never registered. Staff record each one against the member, so the record stays complete.
- Record cash, checks, and card payments alongside online payments
- Attendance marked by staff or by the instructor
- Instructors see their own class rosters without full admin rights
- Message one class or every member without exporting a list
Also for senior living communities and residences
55+ communities and seniors apartment buildings run much of what a center does: an activity calendar, bookable common rooms and notices to residents. Communal treats residents the way it treats members.

Senior activity center software runs a center for adults 50 and over: memberships and renewals, program and class registration, attendance, volunteers, room bookings and donations, all on one member record. It replaces the spreadsheet, the payment app and the mailing list, and it keeps the attendance and volunteer records funders ask about.
No. Care software supports clinical and residential care in long-term care homes and adult day health programs, with care plans and health records. Communal is for activity centers and clubs, which are membership organizations. If you need care planning or clinical records, we are not the right fit.
No. Staff can sign someone up over the phone or at the counter and record a cash or check payment, and the registration looks the same as one made online. Members who do go online can register as a guest or sign in for their member rate. Some members will never log in, and that works.
Staff or the instructor. Create an attendance sheet for a session or a whole series and everyone registered is already on it; mark each person present, late, absent or excused. Walk-ins can be added on the day, and sheets can be filled in after the class too. See attendance tracking software for how the sheets work.
Yes. The Instructor role sees their own classes and rosters without member finances, other programs or admin settings. Your yoga instructor can mark who showed up without holding the keys to the whole system.
Staff record the payment against the member, with the check number if there is one. The membership or invoice is marked paid the same way an online payment would be, so there is no second ledger to reconcile.
Yes, from exports rather than a built-in funder report. Attendance sheets export to CSV or PDF, program signup exports include a column for every session date, and volunteer hours export by volunteer and date range. If you report into a program like Ontario's Seniors Active Living Centres, those files are where your totals come from.
Yes, as soon as the donation is made. Canadian registered charities get official donation receipts with the fields the CRA requires for a straightforward gift, and US 501(c)(3) organizations get receipts with their EIN. Receipts are issued for organizations billing in Canadian or US dollars.
Yes. A program can be closed to non-members, or priced with a member rate and a guest rate. The member rate applies when a signed-in member registers online or when staff sign them up at the desk.
As quickly or as gradually as you like. Some centers move everything at once; others start with memberships and add programs the following season. Data migration from your current system is free, training is included, and support comes from people, not a ticket bot.
From teams who stopped taping tools together.
Community associations, rec centers, and member-based nonprofits across North America moved to Communal when their spreadsheet, booking calendar, and payment system stopped keeping up.

“My experience with the software and the team has been overwhelmingly positive. We switched from another provider and the difference was night-and-day!”
“We are finally able to communicate with our members, run booking software and a program payment platform all in one application. The cost to our Community is very reasonable and the team is fantastic to work with.”
