Communal is a Canadian company. The software is designed, built, and supported in Canada by a team that works with Canadian community organizations every day.
The first organizations on Communal were community associations in Calgary and community leagues in Edmonton. Much of what the product does came from how they run: resident and non-resident rates, halls rented by members, volunteer hours that earn a discount, and donation receipts that satisfy the CRA. Support for US organizations came later, on top of that Canadian base.
- Your data stays in Canada. Member records are stored in Canada and handled under PIPEDA and the privacy law of your province.
- Receipts follow CRA rules by default. Registration number, donor details, amount, and date are on every receipt without a setting to find.
